Dad’s beginnings were in Newark, NJ where he was raised along with his two brothers and sister. He attended Seton Hall Preparatory (SHP) School (then located in South Orange, NJ) and forged friendships that lasted his entire lifetime. SHP meant a great deal to Dad, so much so that even after his family moved to the Jersey Shore, Dad commuted every day his senior year so he could graduate a Pirate. All funds raised from the BLR Memorial Golf Tournament will benefit The Brian L Rogers Memorial Scholarship at Seton Hall Preparatory School.

All seven of his sons graduated from SHP and they all carry on that same love and dedication for SHP (as an FYI all seven of his daughters graduated from Marylawn of the Oranges which also followed the same Catholic preparatory school curriculum). So we felt what better way to honor Dad then to forge the things that meant most to him – family, friends, faith, Seton Hall and golf.

Founded in 1856 by Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley, first Bishop of Newark and nephew of Elizabeth Ann Seton, Bishop Bayley began to plan and organize Seton Hall into a Catholic preparatory school, college and seminary. Seton Hall Prep, or “The Prep” as it is commonly known, is the oldest Catholic college preparatory school in New Jersey.

Once located on the same campus as Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ, The Prep is now located in West Orange, NJ.  Its mission is called to serve young men of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Firmly rooted in the Catholic identity, the mission is to foster the spiritual, intellectual, social and physical growth of their students in order to prepare them to meet the challenges of college and adulthood in a manner that embodies the values that this community cherishes. Among these values Seton Hall Prep highlights are spiritual awareness, academic excellence, personal maturity, and social responsibility with a particular emphasis on service.
